crazy, stupid, lov...ing movies right now!

i finally got over my fear of bed bugs and have returned to the theater. yes, it took some convincing, but it was soooo worth it.

first up was harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2 (that's a mouthful). this movie was made so brilliantly, i am going to have to go see it again to take it all in. i went with my hp partner in crime (we started the films together so we ended them together) and we went to the IMAX 3D version...WOW. there shouldn't be any other way to see a movie.

the special effects were amazing, the acting was on point and the story was told exactly as i remember reading it years ago. bravo to the entire hp contingent on a job way beyond well done.

if you haven't see this yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!??

next it was crazy, stupid, love. i really can't begin to say how much i loved this film. julianne moore, i wanted to hate you, but couldn't. kevin bacon, i wanted to like you, but couldn't. emma stone, you had me at easy a, and that wasn't easy. ryan gosling... ... ... sorry, where was it?

oh right, ryan...i don't know if i was more spellbound by your abs or the dirty dancing lift, but well done my friend. you stole the show with your quick tongue and amazing apparel, and had us all wishing the movie wouldn't end.

the entire cast was great. newcomer, jonah bobo, was a riot, and made me root for the underdog (or in his case, the underage, underclassman, underdog). i truly couldn't find one thing i would change about this film. it's well worth the $13 for a ticket.

most recently there was friends with benefits. i think we could all benefit from having a friend like jt.

justin timberlake and mila kunis have chemistry, there is no doubt about it. right off the bat you believe them friends, and from there, well you can pretty much guess.

i really enjoyed the route this film took to get to it's happy ending. it was cliche a bit, sure. but all romantic comedies are these days. patricia clarkson is too great as a gypsy-type single mother, and jenna elfman is always a pleasure. i think my favorite part however, was the movie within the movie. this film took the time to mock the industry for filming movies in one location, and saying they are in another. as a native new yorker, i can appreciate such mockery, and i salute the writers.

this film is also worth the time and ticket price. although, i would see crazy, stupid again before i'd go for another round of "benefiting"

i am looking forward to all the wonderful movies slated for this fall, as well as the jam-packed winter we need to buckle up for (breaking dawn anyone?). until then, i look forward to the dvd release of crazy, stupid, love...i'm hoping for some hilarious dirty dancing out-takes, or even just some camera freezes on ryan's abs.

don't judge me...after all, it's just this girl's opinion

**update** spider-man 4

well it seems like someone was thinking the same thing i was...

the studio has now released a statement saying that it will go in a different direction for the 4th installment in the comic book story. it will go the route of the prequel. again, still not paying movie theater prices to see this film

did the first movie start with peter parker in high school? didn't tobey maguire play peter parker in the first movie, which started in high school??? like i said, no tobey, no ticket

But hey, that's just this girl's opinion

what are they thinking??

spider-man 4 without tobey or sam?

you work on commission (or movie tickets) right??...big mistake, big! HUGE! i have to go shopping now... (pretty woman, if you don't know that please go rent the movie)

i digress

i am a HUGE spidey fan, and as such i can say, with almost 100% certainty, that i will NOT be seeing the fourth installment. at least not in theaters. the studio is making a huge mistake by not making a deal with maguire and raimi. it was one thing to contemplate the idea of using jake gyllenhaal after only the first movie had been made. HOWEVER, to swap out the star AND (amazing) director after three movie, is simply ridiculous.

as a fan, and loyal viewer (as well as dvd purchaser) i have become accustomed to seeing tobey in that leotard, and i don't really want to see anyone else wear it (you know you agree ladies). the studio should pack it in before it throws millions into this production, and we do not get our monies worth

But hey, that's just this girl's opinion

it's complicated

I just returned from the theater with sisters and a friend, having seen "it's complicated". I think I need to start lowering my expectations, so I don't leave movies disappointed.

I was so looking forward to seeing this movie (mostly for the John Krasinski factor, but I digress) and it just didn't deliver the way I had hoped. Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin were great, as the ex-spouses who hook up. However, I wasn't into Steve Martin as the new love interest for Jane, Streep's character.

I really loved the dynamic between Streep and Baldwin and could have spent hours watching them play off one another. The relationship and romance were very believable, and I truly think every divorced child dreams of their parents rekindling the spark. I thought Krasinski's turn as the daughter's fiance, who knows too much, was excellent and he brought a lot of humor to the part and the movie.

The casting of Lake Bell as Baldwin's new wife was also a bit of a downer for me. I just didn't believe that he would leave his wife for her. The character got no airtime and you weren't able to root against her, as you never saw her, or got the vibe that she was a homewrecker.

I don't know, maybe I'm being too hard. Nancy Meyers did a wonderful job. The movie was well written (aside from the ending, I felt it was lacking a bit) and the direction was great. There really wasn't a dull moment (I laughed my ass off, ask my sisters). But like I said, I wasn't as happy leaving it as I thought I'd be.

I give it a solid B+, I enjoyed it for the most part. I don't know that it's worth the $12.50 to see in it a theater though.

But hey, that's just this girl's opinion.
