TV: Best of 2009 (well, my take anyway)

So, being that the tube has pretty much hit the mid season lull, I thought that now is the perfect time to send some of the best out there to all of you. PLEASE NOTE: when I say "Best of 2009" I mean the beginning of the television season (September through present). I do not literally mean the year 2009.

New Sitcom: MODERN FAMILY. The relationships portrayed are so spot on, I am laughing while sitting here writing. My favorite characters are Jay, Gloria and Manny. The dynamic of the newly merged family is great, and I think that it is well acted. I must say also that Ty Burrell (Phil) is not to be missed as the suburban father of 3. His portrayal, although NOTHING like my own father, reminds me a lot of my childhood (other dads). Phil is so clueless that it makes you love him more. I have to say that I think this show is a true hit and I look forward to the coming antics the writer’s have in store for us.

New Drama: MERCY. It is so refreshing to see a network (NBC) put a show on the air, where the lead is a female (Taylor Schilling as Veronica) who isn’t perfect, Mercy introduced us to Veronica, the just-home-from-Iraq nurse, who is torn between her husband and lover from overseas. Taylor Schilling is doing a wonderful job bringing this complex character to life, and making me beg for more when the episodes end. It doesn’t hurt that the actors are gorgeous and the other main set (aside from the hospital) is an Irish Pub in New Jersey. This drama has it all, and I won’t tell you what’s happening (I’m rooting for Mike) but I will tell you MERCY is worth setting the dvr for. PS, you can catch past episodes on Primetime On Demand (Time Warner Channel 1009)

Returning Sitcom: 30 ROCK. Yes, as much as I am the BIGGEST fan of the Office, I must give this one to 30 Rock. Tina Fey is true comedic genius. I swear, when I grow up I want to be just like her. The writing, the acting, I swear Alec Baldwin might be my favorite person on the planet. There are no words needed. If you watch this show, you get it and you agree. If you don’t…GO RENT THE DVD’s ASAP.

Returning Drama: HOUSE. As always, Hugh Laurie delivers such an epic portrayal of the dysfunctional diagnostician, that it has us all in awe. In the captivating 2-hour season premiere, we were able to see Dr. House at his most vulnerable; in a mental institution, trying to overcome his drug dependency. I cannot fully express my adoration of Hugh Laurie. Every week, he draws me in and makes me laugh and sometimes he even makes me cry. Of course, there are some really great supporting roles on that show. Omar Epps and Olivia Wilde as Dr. Foreman and Thirteen, respectively, always pique my curiosity and have me rooting for the non-hospital based storyline. But really, I’d take on an unidentified rash any day if it meant I’d get House on my case.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Best Female Comedic Performance: Courtney Cox – I may not like your show, but you’re still fab!
Best Male Comedic Performance: Alec Baldwin - Dude, it's Alec Baldwin
Best Female Dramatic Performance: Chandra WIlson - Miranda Bailey is the main reason I watch Grey's
Best Male Dramatic Performance: Alan Rudyk - Dollhouse, V, this guy can do it all
Best Comedic Duo: Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy (30 ROCK)
Best Dramatic Duo: Dr. James Wilson and Dr. Gregory House (HOUSE)
Best Show that gets no Recognition: BONES
Best Reality Show: Hell's Kitchen
Best Soundtrack: Grey's Anatomy

BEST OF THE CW:
Although I hate to admit it out loud, I am an avid C Dub watcher (don't pretend like the Gilmore Girls wasn't the best show on television when it was airing). SO, here is my best list for those of you who have a guilty pleasure like mine...

Best Show: SUPERNATURAL - Put it on, check out the guys, and THEN get back to me
Best New Show: VAMPIRE DIARIES
Best Actress: Sophia Bush (ONE TREE HILL)
Best Actor: Ed Westwick (GOSSIP GIRL)
Best Duo: Dean and Sam Winchester
Best Soundtrack: ONE TREE HILL
Best Setting: GOSSIP GIRL - New York Cityyyyy

So that's my list. You may think I'm wrong, some may think I'm crazy

But hey, that's just this girl's opinion
